Thanks to Catharine Murphy with Passion for Order and her seminar on “Getting Organized for Back to School,” our mornings are a bit less hectic and little more relaxed and enjoyable (not to mention, efficient).
Though we had a many things on a good routine, Catharine’s overviews and suggestions helped us restructure some of our sequences into a better system, and as a result, freed up not only more time in the mornings before school, but created “zones” so that items could be easily located when needed and they were out of the way in their own specific place when not needed.
Backpacks for us were always a thorn, but with the implementation of the “zone” concept, the backpack goes to one place EVERY TIME and when we need to get it, we know where it is. This has saved us valuable time as well as helped to avoid forgetting things that need to go back to school the following day.
Likewise, the afternoon routines were pretty structured, but the use of the “zone” concept, once again, created a habit in our kids and added to the organization and saved time by not having to go back to a particular area and collect items to put away. It was already done.
Quantitatively, I would have to say that even in our pretty organized and structured processes, Catharine managed to improve our morning and afternoon routines by a good 15%-20%. To put that in time, we can now enjoy an additional 10-15 minutes with coffee in the morning before getting the kids up for school since searching for items is no longer an issue.

Catharine was a great motivator in helping me downsize.
She also excelled at helping me change my perspective about what was important to keep and what wasn’t. Well worth her fees. The whole place looks and feels neater and certainly less cluttered.
